Try This: Get involved and improve community

As West Virginia –and the Mid-Ohio Valley — seek new economic opportunities, and ways to attract visitors while growing our population, one idea that is just waiting to be brought to fruition is the exploitation of our region’s incredible outdoor recreation opportunities.

Thursday, the annual Try This Mid-Ohio Valley meeting, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Judge Black Annex on Market Street, will be a brainstorming session in search of ways to capitalize on what we already have in place, and the relative ease with which we could complete projects such as the Parkersburg-to-Pittsburgh Rails to Trails connection.

“People who use the Pittsburgh-to-Parkersburg trail will be attracted by healthy assets like adventure opportunities, 5Ks, paddling, local trails, farmers markets, bed and breakfasts and healthy dining opportunities and so forth,” said Carrie Brainard, public information officer for the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.

Yes, kickstarting some of these ideas will take a little money; but what is really necessary are the people willing to share their ideas and work to make them happen.

“This event will help roll that ball forward,” said Kate Long, co-director of Try This West Virginia. “We’ll be inventorying what’s already there and brainstorming next steps.”

Registration can take place at the event, or on the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department’s Facebook page.

Mid-Ohio Valley residents who have been asking “what if?” a lot lately should not miss this opportunity to get involved.
