School Buses: Drivers deserve praise for keeping kids safe
Thousands of Wood County parents send their children off to school each day, and wait for them to arrive home in the afternoon, via school buses. They do not think twice about trusting their children’s safety to the men and women who drive those school buses because they know the drivers have dedicated themselves to excellence in their jobs.
“We’re talking about a group of people who are really very mindful of safety and take good care of your kids each day,” said Don Brown, director of security for Wood County Schools.
In fact, Brown said the employees of the transportation department are some of the finest employees in Wood County Schools.
It is fitting that the department was given the 2016 Highway Safety Award by the Governor’s Highway Safety program, but probably just the icing on the cake for a group that takes such pride in its work. Drivers, aides, mechanics and administrators all make sure students get not only to class, but to various extracurricular activities as well, safely and on time.
“This is a great honor to receive this award,” said Transportation Director Richard Lance. “The people that really deserve this are the people who are out there every day. I’ve never worked with a better bunch of people.”
Congratulations to the folks who have earned such an honor from the Governor’s Highway Safety program. Certainly it is a small portion of the accolades deserved for getting Wood County kids safely to their schools, day in and day out.
