Christmas: Today is a joyous day for celebration
Today most Christians are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, surrounded by family and friends; good food and presents; twinkling lights on a tree and carols filling the air. There is good reason this is known as the most wonderful time of the year.
In celebrating the birth of a baby boy more than 2,000 years ago, many of us have an opportunity to share our blessings — to give gifts in remembrance of the one great Gift that was given to us. It is a joyous time, often filled with laughter and love.
So take a moment today, look around and see that so much of the way we celebrate Christmas is an expression of all for which we should be grateful. Even those for whom Christmas is simply a secular celebration of the season can acknowledge that. And each of us can probably find a way to share a little of that bounty with those for whom the day involves less shiny wrapping paper and fewer indulgent delicacies on the table.
May each of us carry a little of the light from the Christmas star with us through the rest of the year, and share it where ever we can.
Merry Christmas, to one and all!
