Good morning! Today marks the most joyous morning on the Christian calendar, as on Easter Sunday believers celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the beginning of their faith. Today Christians rejoice in the belief that God “according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope.” (Peter 1:3).
For some, today also marks a truer beginning of Spring, as celebrations of new life and hope extend beyond church services to include gardens brimming with daffodils, the decoration of colorful Easter eggs, baskets filled with goodies and even the chance to bring out those white shoes from their winter boxes. These traditions, too, are symbols of hope and joy, propelling us out of the darkest winter and into the warm sunshine.
On Easter Sunday, celebrants of all kinds cannot help but revel in love, hope and faith in the knowledge that the sun – or the Son – has returned. Candy and Easter parades join forces with grand old hymns such as “Christ the Lord Has Risen Today,” and the whole Christian world sings.
As Christians take the opportunity on Easter Sunday to remind themselves of the love and sacrifice that gives them, too, a new birth, the Earth bursts forth with new life. Easter provides a powerful lesson about looking forward with hope, as Christians are told the angels asked “Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but risen.” (Luke 24:5-6).
So, again, good morning! On this Easter Sunday, may joy, love and, most of all, hope light us all.
