Stella Ruth Stalnaker

Stella Ruth Stalnaker, 99, of Farmington, W.Va., passed away May 10, 2019, at the Pierpont Center at the Fairmont Campus where she had resided for the last eight years. She was born on May 30, 1919, at East Run. Stella was the daughter of Elias L. Criss and Belva Belle Toothman Criss.

Stella attended East Run Elementary School and graduated from Farmington High School in 1936. She also attended Fairmont State College.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Jenkins Hardware in Farmington, Gango’s Grocery in Farmington, and Country Squire Southern States in Fairmont.

After her retirement, she enjoyed taking walks and sitting outside on her front porch. She also enjoyed doing needle crafts.

Stella was a member of the Farmington Main Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving Stella are her sons Ronald (Donna) of Vienna, WV, and Neil (Mary) of Fairmont, WV. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer Grimenstein (Jeff) of Glassport, PA, and Mark Stalnaker (Elizabeth) of Denver, CO. She has two great grandchildren, Stella Ruth and June Corrina Stalnaker of Denver, CO.

In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ersel Floyd Stalnaker. She was also preceded by her brothers, Emery, Homer and Lewis and sisters Inez Pitzer, Daisy Toothman, Minnie Criss, Ruby Priest and Helen Batson.

A graveside service was held at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmington, WV, on May 13, 2019.
