Robert E. Meadows

Robert Earl Meadows, 88 of Washington, WV passed away March 22, 2019 at his residence under Hospice Care. He was born June 30, 1930 in Wood County, a son of the late Jerry M. and Mervilla (Icenhart) Meadows.

Mr. Meadows retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sargent, achieving the rank of E7. He then worked as a toll collector on the Memorial Bridge between Parkersburg and Belpre for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Purple Heart and was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Robert was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 15 and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Mary (Headley) Meadows, two sons: Steve Meadows (Michelle) of Houston, PA and Tim Meadows of Vienna, three grandchildren: Mikayla DeBaker of State College, PA, Jessica Meadows and Jeremiah Meadows of Houston, PA along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Leo, Ronzel and Ernest Meadows and two sisters: Mavoureen Harrison and Ruby Fleak.

Funeral services will be Monday 11AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Thomas Becker officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery with full military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 15 at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4PM.
