Hazel Louise Wherry

Hazel Louise Wherry, 90, of St. Marys, WV, passed away, Jan. 14, 2019, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH. She was born, March 18, 1928, in Alton, Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Clarence and Ressie Cutright Huffman. Louise was a graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. She taught for 31 years in Pleasants County Schools. She started in a one room school house in Arvilla. She eventually moved to the St. Marys Elementary School, the Park School, and finally the Pleasants County Middle School. Prior to her teaching, she had worked for the WVU Extension Office in Pleasants County. She was 50+ year member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church. She was an active 4-H Club Leader of the Pacesetters. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, a member of the French Creek Pioneers in Upshur County, WV, and a member of the Pleasants County Historical Society. She had been active in other community organizations.

Louise is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Kay Wherry of St. Marys, WV, two grandsons, Eric Tyler Wherry of St. Marys, WV, and William David Wherry of Naples, FL, and great granddaughter Kristen Wherry, of Naples, FL. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard N. Wherry, and a brother, Stanley Huffman.

Services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, WV, with Pastor Mark Mayfield officiating. Interment will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery (Park Section). Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p. m. Thursday, and from 12 to 1 p. m. Friday at the funeral home.
