Susie Esther Lasure Whitehair, 76, died peacefully on Dec. 1, 2018 at her Parkersburg, WV, residence after a long illness. Susie was born on April 19, 1942 in Tyler County, the daughter of the late Daniel and Martha George Lasure.
Family and friends were Susie’s passion and delight. Her house was the community center where everyone gathered, and no one left hungry. Susie, along with her late husband, Luther “Sonny” Whitehair, sacrificed what limited resources they had to feed and shelter those in need. With her passing the neighborhood will never be the same.
In addition to her parents and husband, Susie was preceded in death by her first husband Bert Shreves; six siblings, Lawrence, Andrew, Ethel, Pearl, Nina, Lavada, and Mary; daughter Mary Bixman; and great-grandson Braxton Jordan.
Susie is survived by her children, Debbie Jeffries, Loretta Gibson (Martin), Connie Taylor (Van), Terry Whitehair (Wanda) David Whitehair and Gary Whitehair, all of Parkersburg, Charlie Whitehair (Sandra) of Little Hocking, OH and Luther Lasure (Melody) of Charleston, WV; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Landoria Huether of Sistersville, WV and brother Bruce Eugene “Fred” Lasure of Middlebourne, WV.
-We invite you to join in with family and friends at Leavitt Funeral Home 403 7thSt. Parkersburg on Dec. 7, 2018 from 6 – 8:30 p.m., with remembrance service beginning at 8 p.m.. The funeral services will be conducted by her granddaughter, Pastor Melody Smith Dec. 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home in Parkersburg.
