Rev. Phillip R. Newhart

Reverend Phillip R. Newhart, 95, of North Fort Myers, Florida, and formerly of Dutch Ridge, Parkersburg has gone home to see the Lord. At the time of his death on Friday, October 12, 2018, he was under the care of Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida. Reverend Newhart was born in Reedy, WV, a son of the late William R. and Flossie E. Anderson Newhart. His first wife, Doris M. Conklin, whom he married April 14, 1946, preceded him in death January 7, 2003.

Reverend Newhart pursued an education in religious studies, receiving a PHD in Theology. He served churches in New Jersey, Ohio and WV, but felt most proud of his service to the Parkersburg area. He was given the honor of being Area Minister to over one hundred seven churches. Reverend Newhart along with many other affiliations to numerous to mention was past president of the Wood County Ministerial alliance and participated in the Chaplains program at Camden Clark Hospital. He was a WWII overseas Navy veteran and was a member of the former Broadway Baptist Church. After his second marriage, Reverend Newhart, with his wife, began attending St. Francis Catholic Church in Fort Myers, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Carrico Newhart; two daughters, Dr. Lynn Newhart of Rockford, Illinois and Esther J. Gotschall and husband George of Medina, Ohio; one sister, Erma Parks of Parma Heights, Ohio; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Hugh Newhart.

The family will receive friends at Harmony Baptist Church, 4013 10th Avenue, Parkersburg on Tuesday, October 16, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted immediately following visitation with Reverend Dwane Porter assisted by Pastor Tom Gribble officiating. Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Duck Creek Township Cemetery near Newton Falls, Ohio.
