Benjamin “Ben” Wesley Hamrick

Benjamin “Ben” Wesley Hamrick

Benjamin “Ben” Wesley Hamrick, at just 27 years old, prepared for his biggest adventure yet and he set out to trek to Heaven on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He led with the same inquisitive wit that he shared with family and friends every day of his life here on Earth. There was certainly a lot of life in his years, just not enough years in his life.

He blessed this Earth when he was born in Fredericksburg, VA on September 5, 1990 to his proud parents: Stephen Lester Hamrick of Vienna, and Charleen Gail Kerns Hamrick of Little River, SC. They will miss his smile, laugh, and ability to live life to its fullest.

Memories of his intelligent, caring spirit will be treasured by his maternal grandparents: Charles and Kay Kerns of Longs, SC, formerly of Roanoke, WV; aunt, Veronica and Steve Heater of Roanoke; uncle, Charles and Brittany Kerns of Cedar Rapids, IA; and his paternal grandfather, Lester Hamrick of Buckhannon.

He will be reunited in Heaven with his paternal grandmother, Elenetta Hamrick.

Ben graduated from Lewis County High School with the class of 2008, from West Virginia Wesleyan in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, and from Duquesne University in 2014 with his Masters Degree in History. He worked as a Resident Assistant at the International Golf Academy in Hilton Head, SC, as the History Editor for Local-Pittsburgh, and as a Resident Assistant for the Pittsburgh Ballet Company.

This Foodie loved to try craft beers from around the world and enjoyed watching the Food Channel, especially Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and he had a secret desire to travel along with the crew of Bizarre Foods. He traveled extensively every summer, and especially enjoyed spending time in East Central Europe, and teaching English to a family in Germany. He was looking forward to a return visit to scenic Ireland with his parents to play golf and drink a few pints. He was an avid Black & Gold fan who faithfully cheered for Pittsburgh teams to win (yes, even the Pirates).

Ben’s request for cremation has been honored. Friends and family will gather at St. Matthew United Methodist Church from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Conrad and Doug Smailes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor and memory of Ben may be made to the WV Wesleyan College for the Wm. “Bill” Mahoney International Travel Fund Scholarship c/o WVWC Advancement Office 59 College Ave. Buckhannon, WV 26201. Online gifts may be made at www.wvwc.edu.

The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored and privileged to serve the family of Benjamin Wesley Hamrick. Online condolences may be expressed at www.patboylefuneralhome.com.
