Mrs. Priscilla Crow Goodwin

Mrs. Priscilla Crow Goodwin

Mrs. Priscilla Crow Goodwin, 79, of Fayetteville N.C. died Tuesday, February 6, 2018.

She was born at home on May 25, 1938, in College Park, Ga., to the late Tinnie Walden Crow (her father, originally from the rural tracts of the Upper Oconee River basin, Oconee County, Ga.) and the late Mary Patrick Crow (her mother, originally from the Gratis community of Monroe, Ga.). She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister, Judith Crow Wells of Lincolnton, Ga., and survived by her older sister Rosemary Crow Hunter of Lilburn, Ga. Mrs. Goodwin was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, affectionately known by her adoring grandchildren as “Mommadear.” Priscilla Crow and Lewis Roland Goodwin (originally from Sanford, N.C.) were wedded on July 8, 1961, at Hill Baptist Church, Augusta, Ga. Priscilla and Lewis spent their early married years on the Shaw Air Force Base near Sumter, S. C., and then at the US Air Base outside of Bitburg, Germany. The couple later established their new family in Fayetteville; relocating for an extended period to the Ohio River Valley community of Vienna, W. Va., to raise their two children (both graduates of Parkersburg High School, Wood County, W. Va.); and eventually returning to Fayetteville in 1987, to settle in the community of Van Story Hills.

In her high school years, Priscilla Crow was a member of the elite Girls Drum and Bugle Corps, Monroe High School, Monroe, Ga.; then, with her family having moved to Augusta, Ga. her junior year, she attended and graduated from Richmond Academy, where she achieved great success as first chair drummer, including a senior year win of a blue ribbon with the Georgia high school All-State Band. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia (where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha women’s fraternity, known for its broad goals to instill in its members nobility, integrity, and a commitment to high personal standards), later earning a postgraduate degree from Ohio University, enabling her to pursue a life-long career as a Registered Dietitian, first at the Union Mission Ministries Meals on Wheels outreach program (Parkersburg, W. Va.), and later at the Fayetteville Kidney Center, from which she retired in February 2007. Shortly thereafter, husband Lewis retired and the couple spent the next decade together, at home, rising, dining and closing each day in their home of 30 years.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Lewis Roland Goodwin (known affectionately to his grandchildren as “Pop-pop”); son, Mark Lewis Goodwin of Silver Spring, Md.; daughter, Kim Goodwin Morander and husband, Jeffrey Allen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Sara Elane Goodwin of Carmel, Ind., Mary Katherine Goodwin of Frederick, Md. and Madelyne Grace Morander of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Priscilla was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

In her memory, on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, the family will receive visitors and friends from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm in the Gathering Hall of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church with the memorial service to follow in the main sanctuary at 1:00 pm.

The depth of sorrow at her passing is matched only by the peaceful grace provided to us through our memories of Priscilla.
