Winsome Lee Colby Bailey

Winsome Lee Colby Bailey

With her husband and soulmate of 70 years by her side Winsome Lee Colby Bailey ascended the stairway to heaven on Friday January 19, 2018. Winnie was born on September 18, 1931 in Barnesville, OH to the late Kenneth and Audrey Colby. She was an honor student and member of the Barnesville High School Shamrocks marching band graduating in 1948. In 1946 she met George “Pete” Bailey and they were married in December 1947. They moved to Parkersburg in 1949 where she was a housewife taking care of her family until beginning her work career at Sears in 1966 as a sales consultant in the women’s department. After several promotions she retired from the personnel department in 1999. She returned to Sears as a consultant on a part time basis and worked for several more years. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church for 52 years serving on several church committees. A favorite pastime was vacationing at the beach with family and friends. Family interaction was very important with her greatest passion spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her only sibling Donna Smith, Donna’s spouse Guy Smith and daughter-in-law Barbara. She is survived by her husband Pete and their sons Greg and Jon both of Parkersburg. Grandsons Jason of Parkersburg and Robert Bailey (Rachele) great granddaughters Isabella, Taylor, and great grandson Colby of Sachse Texas and her first great grandchild Amber Bailey of Parkersburg who is currently attending WVU in Morgantown. Jon has 2 sons Jordan and Derek who reside in Parkersburg. Jordan (Sarah) gave Ama 5 great grandchildren Christian, Nicholas, Peter, Gus, and Betty. Also surviving are several nephews, niece, and grand nephews and nieces. A special thanks to grandsons Jordan and Jason who took good care of their Mamaw.

Winnie was a very special woman who loved everyone and was loved by all. She was a very special wife, Mom, Mamaw, Ama, and friend. During the illness of her daughter-in-law Winnie became an integral part of Barbara’s care. Even though she will always be in our hearts and minds not having her physical presence on earth will be hard for everyone who loved or knew her.

Visitation will be at Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg on Tuesday January 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
