Clarence ‘Charlie’ ‘Jack’ B. Brown Jr.

Clarence “Charlie” “Jack” B. Brown Jr., 83, of Parkersburg, WV, went home to be with his Lord on November 17, 2017, at his home.

He was born April 22, 1934, in Kingwood, WV, the son of the late Clarence B. Brown Sr. and Hazel Sanders Brown.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary; two sons, Clarence B. “Butch” Brown III of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Michael D. Brown of Pittsburgh, PA; three daughters, JoBeth Showalter of Parkersburg, Donna Currey and husband Jeff of Millwood, and Angela Kelly and her husband Jeff of New Concord, OH; one sister, Linda Kester of Indianapolis, IN; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was a faithful member of the South Parkersburg Baptist Church serving various programs and committees including teaching the 6th grade Sunday School class and adult Bykota Sunday School class, served on the evangelization board, president of retired men’s association, member pf cornerstone ministry, coordinator of the Youth Lunch Alternative program for Parkersburg South High School students and delivered meals for the Salvation Army.

He was a 1952 graduate of Terra Alta High School, Preston County, WV, and graduated in January 1957 from West Virginia University with a BS degree in Vocational Agriculture.

Clarence taught school briefly in Masontown and Ravenswood before joining the Planning department of Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, WV, as production scheduler for foil, plate, and I&L, and computer programmer. He retired from the Ravenswood Works after 32 years of service.

At age 60 he retired as Major from the United States Army Reserve System with 24 years of service. His path of service began with ROTC at WVU. He then continued to service with basic training at Ft. Campbell KY, US Armor School, Fort Knox, KY, Automotive School, Fort Knox, KY, 812th Ordinance Company, Ripley, WV, 10 months active duty for the Cuban Missile Crisis, Fort Knox, KY, Special Forces A team Detachment Commander, Tri-State Airport, Huntington, WV, Airborne School, Ft Benning, GA, Adjutant Detachment B, Charleston, WV, Company Commander, Company C, Camp Dawson, Kingwood, WV. He also served in annual summer training exercises prior to retirement throughout the United States.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the funeral home. Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Bush officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to South Parkersburg Baptist Church or Housecalls Hospice.
