Doris Elder McGinnis
Doris Elder McGinnis, 92, of Vienna, died October 17, 2017. She was born January 24, 1925 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late Emory E. and Alma Vassar Elder and was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School in 1943 where she was a majorette for the Polar Bear Marching Band.
Doris McGinnis was a rare soul whose compassion, wisdom and caring nature touched many lives. She was the matriarch of our tight-knit family, including the many friends she welcomed into her circle as a “second mom”. She was selfless and fiercely independent, always ready to help and care for others. She was one of the greats of “the greatest generation” typified by her exceptional strength of character, mind and body. She will always be treasured in our hearts. We will miss her loving counsel, saucy witticisms and sage advice; we will strive to honor her memory by living up to her example.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Connie and Fred Sauro of Williamstown; two grandchildren and their spouses Scott and Michelle Sauro of Williamstown and Amy Elizabeth and Chris Lambert of Ronceverte, WV; and two great grandchildren, Kayli and Alyssa Sauro of Williamstown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bruce D. McGinnis whom she was married to for 60 years before his death in 2006. She was also preceded by one brother, Bill Elder and one sister, Jean Elder.
Graveside Services will be Monday 11:00 a.m. at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Murphy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 417 Grand Park Drive, Vienna, WV 26105.
