Charles Merlyn Smith, 99, of Parkersburg, died September 12, 2017 at The Wyngate Senior Living Community. He was born August 22, 1918 in Reedy, WV a son of the late Bud C. and Mabel Hoskins Smith.

He was an active member at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, where he loved to sing in the choir. He was a US Army Veteran and was also a member of the American Legion Post #15 and National Rifle Association. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum at Ravenswood. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed square dancing, singing, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by one daughter, Loretta Wallace of Parkersburg; one son C. Brenton (Nita) Smith of Williamstown; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Ida) Smith of Fayetteville, WV; one sister, Diane Gannon of Washington D.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Guthrie Smith; five brothers, Ronald, Rossing, Bill, B.G., Buddy Joe Smith; and one sister, Wanda Thirouin.

Services will be Friday 1:00 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Cynthia Eakle officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery North with military rites by the American Legion Post #15.

Visitation will be Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday one hour prior to the service.
