Vera M. Courtney

Vera M. Courtney, 90, a resident of Harmer Place and formerly of Belpre, went home to be with her Saviour on February 20, 2017. Vera was born March 21, 1926 at Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Earl, Sr. and Opal Poling Duke.

Vera was the oldest living charter member of Tri-City Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught children’s Sunday school class for many years and also taught Women’s Discipleship Classes. She and her husband had owned Paramount Inc., which consisted of retail record stores in Salem and Grafton and Courtney Distributing, a distributorship of Tom’s Food Ltd. She had managed the former All American Car Wash and retired as manager of Harris Sheet Metal in Belpre. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading and sports.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Kimberley D. Skinner and her husband, Kenneth W. of Belpre and a grandson, Joseph Wesley Harris and his wife, Micalyn of Parkersburg.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Ancel C. Courtney, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be Noon, Friday, February 24, 2017 at Tri-City Baptist Church, 913 Grandview St., Parkersburg. Pastor Joe Ward will officiate and interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M., Thursday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Ave., Parkersburg and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
