Paul Steven Wells

Paul Steven Wells, 67, of Vienna, died on January 22, 2017, at The Arbors in Marietta, Ohio, following an extended illness related to the complications of diabetes. He was born June 5, 1949, the son of the late Paul William Wells and Virginia Cline Wells.

Steve was a 1967 graduate of Parkersburg High School, attended Glenville State College and was a graduate of Ohio University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Steve’s career in radio and television sales took him to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and New York City.

Steve was an active member of the Blues, Jazz, and Folk Music Society of Marietta where he helped to secure groups to participate in competitions, wrote the Blues Society’s newsletter, and served as the organization’s vice president. Steve’s passion was helping to organize the highly successful Blues in the School Artist-in-Residency Program that reached middle school students in Washington County, Ohio, and Wood County, W.Va.

Steve was a skilled photographer and enjoyed sharing his work with family and friends. Steve found pleasure in listening to blues music, cooking for friends, and having a backyard garden.

Steve was a Christian by faith and was formerly a member of the Vienna Baptist Church.

Steve is survived by his sister, Barbara Erwin of St. Louis, Mo.; two nephews, David Erwin of Alton, Ill., and Richard Erwin of Sharpsburg, Ga.; two great-nieces; several cousins; and many friends, including the Rev. Norman Butler who offered encouragement and comfort during Steve’s illness.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Erwin.

Memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with the Rev. Norman Butler officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday.
