Donzil ‘Chuck’ Lee Eddy

Donzil “Chuck” Lee Eddy, better known as “Coach” to many, passed after complications from surgery at Duke University, on February 20, 2017, at the age of 76.

Chuck was one of seven children to Harold and Katherine Eddy. He was preceded in death by his sister Winnie; brothers, Carl “Bigin,” Gary “Freck,” James “Leroy the Boy,” and Marvin “Bones.” He is survived by his brother, Harold “Popcorn” Eddy of Vienna, W.Va.

Chuck played on Parkersburg High School’s state championship basketball team and was captain of the West Virginia All-State Team in 1958. After a stint in the U.S. Army, he attended Glenville State College where he played basketball, and he met his wife Margaret Holdren Eddy Quinto. Upon graduating, he began a career in teaching and coaching at St. Marys, Williamstown, Belpre, and Parkersburg. He used his coaching platform to motivate and influence people to take responsibility for their lives and actions. His energy and zest for life were truly intoxicating, and it was this energy that attracted all who were around him. He spent his retired days at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Chuck’s lineage is passed on by his son, Brian Eddy and wife Lisa of Charleston, W.Va., and their four children, Cristina, Luke, Kate and Gus; and his son, Danny “Boone” Eddy and wife Christine of High Point, N.C., and their four children, Camille, Jacob, Rachel and Will. Chuck is also survived by his companion of 27 years, Gail Ogdin.
