Doris Ethel Hofmann Summerville

In the early evening hours of January 12, 2017, the heavens opened wide and welcomed home a kind and gentle soul.

Doris Ethel Hofmann Summerville was born at home in Wadesville, W.Va., on September 4, 1923, to the late Charles Christopher and Ethel Madge Davis Hofmann. Doris was the seventh of ten children.

Doris was truly a member of the “greatest generation.” She attended Parkersburg High School, quit school after the tenth grade to work at Sloan’s Drug Store.

Then to support the war effort she became a “Rosey the Riveter” working at a defense plant in Ohio on Route 7, making airplane parts.

She became a faithful employee of Sears Roebuck & Company, retiring in 1990, after 41 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion, a long time supporter of the Salvation Army and volunteered for 18 years at the Camden Clark Hospital gift shop.
