Dorothy Lee Hoyt
Dorothy Lee Hoyt, of Belpre, went to heaven on December 4, 2016.
She was born in Bright, Ind. on February 6, 1931.
This beautiful lady blessed everyone she met throughout her 85 years of life on this earth.
She was married to Gordon C. Hoyt, the love of her life, for 67 years. Together they brought into this world, Terry Jean (Gary) Nichols, Parkersburg, Bryan (Donna) Hoyt, Zionsville, Ind. Richard (Cindy) Hoyt, Belpre, Ohio, Ronald (Jean) Hoyt, Little Hocking, Ohio, Karen (Bill) Stewart, Coral Gables, Fla., Leslie Hoyt, Little Hocking, Ohio, Rita (Gary) Kehl, Reedsville, Ohio, Judith Coe, (deceased), Carla (Jim) Carpenter, Little Hocking, Ohio, Sonja (Peter) Waplinger, Dallastown, Pa., Chris (Dave) Fetherolf, London, Ohio, Jeanna Marie Hoyt, (deceased) and Tracy Hoyt, Parkersburg. In addition Dorothy leaves 33 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Her faith in God has been shared with her loved ones through her home life, church work, missionary studies for children and Sunday School teaching for many years in both Indiana and Parkersburg. Dorothy worked to better the children’s department at Converse United Methodist Church in Indiana and she was working to improve the migrant workers camp in Converse before other communities became aware of the need. After having a son with Downs Syndrome, Dorothy became a proponent for main streaming special needs children in the Warren Local School District. Her great love of books was passed on to the family, as well as her great love of music.
Dorothy is also survived by three sisters, Joan (Kenneth) Gates of Tennessee, Wanda Lou Bricker and Waneta Hyman, of Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Mendell; her mother, Helen (Kling) Mendell; her two daughters, Jeanna Hoyt and Judy Coe; and a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Marie Stewart.
A memorial service will be held on December 30 at 3 p.m. in the Porterfield Baptist Church Sanctuary.
The family has entrust arrangements to Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
