Frances S. Ball

Frances S. Ball, 91, of Parkersburg, passed away Nov. 2, 2016 at her residence.

She was born June 8, 1925, in Dawes, W.Va., Kanawha County, a daughter of the late Fred F. and Freda Opal Burns Surface. She has voted in every election since 1946 and was actively involved with the Democratic Party. Frances served as an officer in the Wood County and state Democratic Womens Club and served on the State Committee of the Silver Haired Legislature. She was the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for West Virginia.

Frances was a charter member of the Eastern Star Chapter 151 in Vienna. She was a member of the North Parkersburg Baptist Church for over 40 years and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 15 years where she taught Sunday school. She was a Scout leader and was very involved with school activities.

She is survived by two sons, Jim Ball and Ed Ball (Judy) all of Parkersburg; son-in-law, David Williams and special friend, Joyce Cunningham; a sister, Wanda Holland (Roland) of Spencer, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Kathy (Joe) Hinkley,; Michelle (Mike) Bosley, Kristie (Chad) Holliday, Mackenzie MacIntyre, Tabi and Jim Ball, Brian and Tyson (Allison) Williams and J.R. Caldwall; and nine great-grandchildren, Stephen and Danielle Scohy, Justin and Megan Bosley, Brandon and Dylan Holliday, Gracie and Hugh MacIntyre, Asher and Aiden; two great-great-grandchildren, Connor Smith and Harper Williams; two step-grandchildren, Scott (Julie) and Stace (Rae Ellen) Miller; and five step-great-grandchildren, Darienne and Brody Miller, Hannah and Rachel Forester and Emma Romanowski.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oral L. “Bud” Ball; a daughter, Johnnie Williams; daughters-in-law, Judi A. Ball and Carol Ball; three brothers, Denver, Kenneth and Earl W. Surface; and a sister, Armalene Surface.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 1710 23rd St., Parkersburg, with Dr. Kurt Busick officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:30-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va.
