Sandra S. Dorton
Sandra Shumate Dorton, 73, of Ripley, passed away Sept. 25, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital following a long illness.
Sandy was born April 24, 1943, at Beckley, daughter of the late Herman and Shirley Cook Shumate.
She retired as an office manager with Century 21 Realty in Ripley and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ripley. She enjoyed the Book Club and Woman’s Club of Ripley and took great pride in helping the Community of Ripley by serving with Main Street of Ripley and the Ripley Beautification Committee.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dorton Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Dorton and son-in-law, Tim Alford, of Milton; son, Harold Dorton Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Mobile, Ala.; brothers, Daniel Shumate and his wife, Pam, of Silverton and Ron Shumate and his wife, Elaine, of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Elise Steele and Ellis Dorton; and her special friend whom was like a sister to her, Zella Fisher and her husband Jack, along with their children, Fonda Moore and Ginger Stephens. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Karen and Clark Winstead.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Burial will be in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
