Rose “Terry” Theresa (Schuss) Zetterberg, 92, of Uniondale, N.Y., joined her beloved husband, Ralph in eternity on Apr. 8, 2015.
Rose is survived by her four children, Lynn (Stephen) Schur of Venice, Fla., James (Judith) Zetterberg of Williamstown, Nancy (John) Brooks of Springboro, Ohio and Dr. Gary Zetterberg of Park City, Utah. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Rose was born on Christmas Day, Dec 25, 1922, in Caransebes, Romania, to Frank and Stephanie (Lisutina) Schuss. At the age of 5 she and her family emigrated from Romania to Vancouver, Canada, where she grew up. When WWII broke out, she join the Canadian Royal Air Force and helped to defend her country. At the end of the war, she met the love of her life and on July 30, 1947 married US Air-force Sergeant Ralph T. Zetterberg, in Maumee, Ohio. They would spend the next 51 years together until his death in 1998.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Conover; and two brothers, John and Edward Schuss.
Shortly after the World Trade Center attack on 9/11, Rose left her house on Long Island, NY and spent the next several months in Williamstown, next-door to her son, James.
Rose loved gardening. She was an active and dedicated member of the Uniondale Senior Citizen Center, where she volunteered as a dance and exercise instructor.
The funeral was held April 14, 2015, at Leo F. Kearns Funeral Home, in East Meadow, N.Y., with John Brooks officiating the ceremony. She was laid to rest beside her husband, in Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island, N.Y.
