Robert Board, 83, of Parkersburg, passed away Sept. 2, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1931, at Belleville, a son of the late Opie Board Sr. and Garnet Freeland Board. Robert retired from the A.B. Chance Company after 28 years of service. He enjoyed taking the kids to play baseball when they were younger, enjoyed playing the guitar, having played at some of the area High Rise Apartments, and he enjoyed bluegrass music.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas “Tom” (Donna) Board of Leachtown and Robert E. Board of Parkersburg; two daughters, Penny Cain of Parkersburg and Loretta (Chris) Martin of Mineral Wells; six grandchildren, Kristen and Darla Board, Chelsy and Cody Martin, Alisha Shamblin and Frankie Cain II; and two great grandchildren, Mikey and Gracie Shamblin; one brother, Opie “Dick” Board of Mineral Wells; a sister, Maxine Clark of Belleville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Morris Board.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th St., Parkersburg. Pastor John Barker will officiate and burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m today.
