Troy Edward Chandler

Troy Edward Chandler, 89, of Spencer, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg.

He was born March 5, 1925, in Spurlocksville, a son of the late George and Leota Cooper Chandler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Delno; brothers, Jess, Buster and George Jr.; sisters, Ethylene, Reba, Sallie and Eva Gae.

He was a local business man. He owned and operated Mountain State Lumber Company, Spencer Truck and Implement Company. He was also owner and operator of the Spencer Skating Rink. He was a leader in the community. He served as chairman of the local Democrat Party on two different occasions. He served as Chairman of the WV Black Walnut Festival in 1960. He was a member of the Moriah Lodge No. 38, A.F. & A.M., Spencer, the Nemesis Shrine Temple, Parkersburg, the Knights of Pythias, the American Legion Post 21, Spencer, and the Spencer Church of Christ. He left Duval High School in 1943 to serve his country in World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and participated in the invasions of Okinawa and Iwo Jima.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Danny and Donna Chandler of St. Marys, and George and Beverly Chandler of Spencer; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Minister Gene Miller officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend many thanks to the doctors and staff members of the VA Hospital and VA Nursing Home for the kind and compassionate care of their loved one.
