Rheta L. Creeger, 72, of Coolville, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens, Ohio.
She was born Sept. 20, 1941, in Coolville, Ohio, daughter of the late Russell and Mary Belle Bentz Cody.
She was a member of Coolville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Coolville Volunteer Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary. Rheta was a 1959 graduate of Carthage-Troy High School and graduated from Mountain State Business College in 1961. She worked in the Treasurers office at Ohio University for four years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Coolville and Belpre with 30 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ivan Creeger; a son, Tim Creeger of Vienna, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Scott Varney of New Albany, Ohio; a step-daughter, Melissa Meeley; four grandchildren, Alan, Justin, Samantha and Elizabeth; a great-grandson, Jack; and a sister, Jane Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Owens; and a step-daughter, Lamarsha Payne.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Coolville Cemetery, with Pastor Katherine Riley officiating. There will be no visitation.
