Melvin Eugene Holmes

Melvin Eugene Holmes, 66, of Davisville passed away July 12, 2014, at his residence.

Melvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his fondest memories were trips to Turtle Run with family and hunting buddies. Trout fishing, especially at Stonewall Jackson, Stone Coal and Spruce Knob Lakes, provided years of fishing stories. He enjoyed landscaping and made our home lovely and unique. His family was his greatest joy and he was dearly loved by them all. He was a 46-year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 565. He retired in 2004.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 47 years, Kay Davis Holmes; daughter, Kelli Holmes Wanchick; grandson, Ethan Wanchick; son, Alan (Seanna); step-granddaughters, Aimee Rhodes (Josh) and Hope Allman; his mother, Betty M. Holmes; sister, Rhonda Allen (Tom); several loving nieces and nephews; and special companion, Marli. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Eskel (Jim) Holmes.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg. A Gathering of family and friends will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Leavitt Family Center.

The family would like to thank Housecalls Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care, Dr. Kelli Cawley and nurses and Dr. Vason and his technicians and staff for their excellent care and dedication to his comfort.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Arc of the Mid Ohio Valley, 912 Market St., Parkersburg WV 26101 or to the Plumbers” and Pipefitters’ Local 565.
