Ray L. Boso

Ray Louis Boso, 89, passed away June 8, 2014, at The Arbors in Marietta.

He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Washington, W.Va., to the late John Michael and Ada Humphrey Boso.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1942 where he played in the Big Red Band. He attended WVU and was a memeber of the WVU Marching Band. Ray served in the Navy during World War II and returned to the family farm in Belleville, W.Va., where he farmed for many years.

After retirement, he began volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, eventually becoming the construction supervisor for 25 years at Habitat homes in Wood County. He was honored to be the namesake for the Ray of Light award given by that organization.

Ray was a local history enthusiast and a member of the Wood County Historical and Preservation Society. He was lately a docent at the Oil and Gas Museum. Family genealogy and Belleville history were especially important to him.

He was a lifelong Methodist, was involved in church choirs over the years, and was a member of Stephenson United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Diana Hill of Parkersburg and Terry Higgins (Greg) of Belleville; five grandchildren, Cynthia Parrish, Jeffrey Hughes (Elizabeth), Aaron Higgins (Abby), Alexander Higgins and Ian Higgins; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Parrish, Nathaniel Parrish and Eliana Higgins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Geraldine Reese Boso; a daughter, Susan Lynn Boso; and two brothers, Charles and Clarence Boso.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg with the Rev. Mona Jackson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
