Ira David Thomas
Ira David Thomas, 80, of Lesage, W.Va., formerly of Parkersburg, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Emogine Dolen Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va., surrounded by his family, after a long courageous battle with Sapranuclear Palsy.
He moved to Parkersburg in 1960, when he went to work for Borg Warner. He worked as an electrician there and retired after 33 years.
He was married to the love of his life, Bobbie, for 57 years. Together, they were active members of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where Ira served as an elder for 40 years. Ira loved music and his favorite song to sing was “Hole in the Bottom of The Sea”.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, James and Jean Thomas of Huntington, and David and Susan Thomas of Parkersburg; six grandchildren, Cindy Edmonds (Brad), Tammy Thomas, Sabrina Thomas, Deanna McCloud (Andy), David Thomas (Lindsey) and Shanel Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Adriane Cochran, Makayla Thomas and Luke Thomas; one great-great-grandson, Bransyn Lee; a sister, Maxine Hughes of Mt. Nebo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie (Worlledge) Thomas; his parents, Roy and Etta Thomas; a sister, Hazel McClung; and a brother, Emil Thomas.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Minister Joe Bentley Sr. officitating. Visitation will be noon-3 p.m. Sunday, May 4. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
