Freda Brookover, 101, of Pennsboro, passed away May 10, 2014, at Pineview Continuous Care in Harrisvillle.
She was born Jan. 28, 1913, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late William and Icie (Toothman) Dotson.
Mrs. Brookover was a 1932 graduate of Cairo High. She worked for the Silver Star Grocery and was a Janitor at the First United Methodist Church in Pennsboro. She was also the evening cook at the Sheppard’s Nursing Home in Ellenboro and was a former member of the Pennsboro Order of the Eastern Star. Freda was a member of the United Brethren Methodist Church in Pennsboro (now Pennsboro United Methodist Church) where she was a Sunday School Teacher.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Anna Jean Brookover of Pennsboro; three grandchildren, Stephen Brookover of Pennsboro, Robin Carpenter (Ed) of Pennsboro and Samuel Brookover of Middlebourne; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two step-great great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt W. Brookover; son, Ronald Lee Brookover; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Pastor Kelly Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today.
