Alice L. Mathers

Alice Lacey Mathers, a longtime resident of Belpre, Ohio, died May 6, 2014, in LaGrange, Ind.

Alice was the only child of Herman and Elizabeth Lacey. She was born in Constitution, Ohio, on Jan. 15, 1919, and was a graduate of Marietta High School in the class of 1936.

Alice lived most of her life in the Marietta and Belpre area and worked many years as a clerk for the City of Belpre. She was a longtime member of the Belpre Heights United Methodist Church serving at various times as church pianist, a member of the choir and as treasurer of the United Methodist women’s group.

Preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Mathers in 1986, Alice is survived by her sons, Neil (Leatha) and Gary (Myra); and daughter, Anne (Jeff) Posendek. Her grandchildren include Melissa Chamrin and Jeff Mathers, Kyle and Greg Mathers and Jon Todt, Scott and Brian Posendek. She has nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor Rod Bower and Paul McGuire officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Gravel Bank Cemetery.
