Glenda L. McGivern

Glenda L. McGivern, 90, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Wyngate Senior Living Community.

She was born Dec. 11, 1923, in Parkersburg, to the late James D. and Elizabeth (Thompson) Bowers.

Glenda was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, the VFW Auxiliary in Clarksburg, and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary in Clarksburg. Locally, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Golden Girls. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed traveling and being with her family. Her greatest joy was her family.

Glenda loved people and had friends everywhere. No matter where her daily life led her she ran into someone she knew. She loved selecting just the right greeting cards and sending them to those she cared for most. If it was a special occasion you knew you would receive a very special card from Glenda. She never met a stranger. She was a friend to all.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan (Boice) Winans (Charles “Butch”) of Belpre, Ohio, Mary E. McGivern (William Jones) of Houston, Texas, and Carole A. Sabatelli (Mark) of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Patrick D. McGivern (Donna) of Charleston, W.Va., and James M. McGivern (Ann) of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren, Michael Winans (Cindy), April Epperly (Chris), Patrick Sabatelli and Elizabeth Sabatelli; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Ben and Olivia Epperly; one brother, James D. Bowers; plus several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William E. McGivern; she also was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph E. Boice; one brother, Sam Bowers; and two sisters, Vera Bowers (Sr. Mary Amabilis, P. C. J.) and Mary Mohr.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Wyngate Senior Living Community for their compassionate care.
