Waldine B. Kanney

Waldine B. Kanney, 95, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Jan. 20, 2014, at Eagle Pointe Nursing Facility.

She was born Dec. 7, 1918 in Fleming, Ohio, a daughter of the late James L. and Mary Dickinson Barnett. She was retired from G.E. Plastics/Borg Warner and was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the 225 Bowling Club and enjoyed golfing. She was a volunteer at Camden Clark Hospital with 3500 volunteer hours. She sang in two choirs, “Voices of Triumph” and the Zion Baptist Church choir. Waldine was a member of the Missionary Society, the Zion Workers, the Women’s Study Club and was a Deaconess in charge of communion.

Waldine is survived by her children, Richard Kanney (Gloria) of Westminster, Md., Rose Seymour of Parkersburg, W.Va., Cheryl Chaney (Lionel) of Parkersburg, Fred Kanney (Linda) of Pickerington, Ohio, Kathy Fleetwood of Union City, Ga., and Celestine “Cookie” Hollister (Joe) of Atlanta, Ga.;15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Miriam Barnett of Inglewood, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Barnett, Betty Barnett and Ollie Kanney; cousin, Ruth Mayle; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Kanney; one grandchild, Lamar; brothers, Bernard, Ed, Don, Leon and Fred Barnett; sisters, Pauline Dodd and Dorothy Barnett; and son-in-law, Edwin Seymour.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, at Zion Baptist Church in Parkersburg with Pastor Charles L. Grays officiating. Interment will follow at the Barnett Ridge Cemetery in Fleming, Ohio. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green St., Parkersburg and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Augusta Cottage at Eagle Pointe in memory of Waldine.
