Reese L. Blizzard

Reese L. Blizzard, 94, of Parkersburg, died Nov. 9, 2013, at the Masonic Home, Parkersburg.

He was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Roy and Florence Porter Blizzard.

Reese retired from Hartford Steam Boiler Company as a special agent for the State of West Virginia, and later managed the Public Debt building for many years. He was a member of the PHS Big Red band in 1936 that won the national competition in Rhode Island that year under the direction of George J. Dietz. He was a U.S. WWII Navy veteran and a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Lodge #3, a 32nd degree mason, past potentate of the Nemesis Shriners and charter member of the Ben Bey Grotto. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion, Elks and Republican Party. He also served on the Board of the Salvation Army.

He is survived by his sister, Rose Longmire of Vienna; nephew, Tom Longmire of Vienna; and niece, Linda Mason of Knoxville, Tenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Corbitt Blizzard; daughter, Anne Moore; and nephew, Dale Longmire.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Ian Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge #3. Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
