Richard James Rooney, 77, of Williamstown passed away surrounded by family Oct. 30, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 17, 1936 in Millis, Mass., a son to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Rooney. He was an electrician by trade and a 55 year member of the IBEW Local Union 103, he also was an Assistant Deputy Wiring Inspector for the town of Millis, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed fishing, watching, and playing hockey and was a coach for many years. He was also a fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Peter, daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy”, and sister Anne.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Leora, son, Rick Rooney of San Diego, Calif., stepson, Robert L. Ellis of Belleville, daughters, Karen Croke (Larry) of Ashland, Mass., Jennifer Flaherty (Joe) of Norwood, Mass., daughter in law, Elizabeth Rooney of Marlboro, Mass., step daughters, Susan Combs (Ed) of Milan, Mich., Judy Blatt (Pete) of Belleville, and Sandra Riel (Mark) of Waverly, sister, Eleanor O’Shea of Needham, Mass., brother, Thomas Rooney, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Service Saturday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m. at the Sunset Memory Gardens Chapel of Peace, with a time of gathering from noon until 1 p.m. Inurnment will take place in the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
