Oliver K. “Butch” Smith, 69, Parkersburg, formerly of St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at his residence.
Born on Feb. 19, 1944, in Pleasants County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Roy and Barbara Hayes Smith. He was a disabled Navy Veteran and a member and worked for the Sheet Metal union. He was also a member of the American Legion and Camden Avenue Church of Christ. Butch loved his grandchildren, music, singing, farming and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Madonna Ann McPeek Smith; children, Kelly (Scott) Byers, Stacy Stout, Barbara (Jeffrey) Snively, Oliver Keith Smith, Lisa Wagner, and Rick (Tonya) McPeek; 16 grandchildren, Oliver Travis and Ethan Tyler Barnhart, Tad and Jarod Thaxton, Michael Stout, Jenna Steele, Shirley and Layla Snively, Val and Keithen Smith, Kristin Nicole and Bryan Keith Wagner, Benjamin Keith, Bradley Calvin, and Peyton Elizabeth McPeek; five great-grandchildren, Ethan Tyson Barnhart, Heidi and Faith Thaxton, Julian Slater, and Blakelynn Thaxton; and one sister, Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jeanette Paynter Smith; two brothers, John and Valley Joe Smith; and one sister, Margaret Stewart.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at George Street Church of Christ, St. Marys with Arnold Huyghebaert officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Pleasants County, W.Va., with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys and from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
