Margaret Hendershot

Margaret Hendershot, 89, of Parkersburg, died Sept. 26, 2013, at the Cedar Grove Assisted Living.

She was born Feb. 14, 1924 in Cairo, W.Va., a daughter of the late Elmer C. and Emma Ross Starr.

She worked for Stone & Thomas as a buyer, was a homemaker and a devoted wife, caring for her husband Willie. She was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church and Lambda Chi Sorority. In their younger years, Margaret and Willie enjoyed playing golf and traveling to the Mountaineer football games together.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Charles “Willie” Hendershot; stepdaughter, Pamela (Jerry) O’Brien of Parkersburg; one step granddaughter, Kimberly (Dave) Hettinger of Colonial Heights, Va.; three step great-grandchildren, David, Matthew and Taylor Hettinger; one step grandson, Casey O’Brien of Parkersburg; and one nephew, John Stone of Parkersburg.

As the last surviving member of her family, Margaret was preceded in death by five sisters, Rena Mae McKinney, Edna Richards, Hazel Mercer, Betty Hakes and Lillie Taitt; and two brothers, Clyde and Glen Starr.

Services will be Saturday 1 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend Chrissy Ruehl officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
