Brian Michael Smedley, 45, of Mineral Wells, went home on Angels wings to be with his Heavenly Father and Jesus, his Saviour from Camden Clark Medical Center, on Stpt. 10, 2013, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 14, 1968 in Parkersburg, the son of Michael J. and Sandy Beach Smedley of Parkersburg. Brian was a 1986 graduate of Parkersburg South High School where he played football and was on the track team. He had attended Glenville State College. He was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells.
Brian had been employed as a chemical operator with the Energizer Battery Company in Marietta. He was an avid sports fan enjoying all types of sports, he was a Buffalo Bills and West Virginia Mountaineer Fan and also enjoyed Bowling.
Brian was a wonderful family man who was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
Surviving in addition to his parents is his wife Michele L. Brown Smedley, his son, Bryce Michael Smedley and his daughter Olivia Grace Smedley, both at home; his sister Tammy (John) Moore of Parkersburg; sister and brother-in-law, Lora and Tim Bruker of Vienna. Nieces, Jessica and Toria Moore and Caroline Bruker; aunts, Judy (Hank) Oldaker and Rhena Stanley and uncle Bob (Kitty) Beach.
He is also survived by in laws Rev. Wayne and Nancy Rundle Brown of Parkersburg and grandmother-in-law Pam Brown of Fairmont and aunts and uncles Hazel and Mark Armstrong of Mineral Wells, Daniel and Helen Rundle and David and Theresa Rundle of Fairmont, many special cousins and other extended family members and many close friends and acquaintances and special pet “B.J.”
Preceding him in death are paternal grandparents Lovell and Belle Smedley and maternal grandparents Claude and Orpha Beach.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Kevin Lantz officiating. Entombment will follow at the Three Crosses Mausoleum at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Amedysis Hospice and Nurses for the care given to Brian during his illness and special thanks to Dr. Kelli Cawley for her care and professionalism shown during Brian’s illness.
