Ernest Willard Flanagan, 96, of Vienna, W.Va., formerly of Cairo, W.Va., passed away Aug. 14, 2013.
He was born in Ritchie County, the son of the late Herb and Mabel Windon Flanagan.
He had worked for many years for Consumer Gas Utility Company in Ritchie County and had one time served as the mayor of Cairo and the President of the Ritichie County Board of Education. He was a member of the Cairo Masonic Lodge and enjoyed gardening. He was a member and head Deacon of the Cairo Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edna P. Cooks Snyder Flanagan of Vienna; one son, James W. Flanagan and wife Jean of Williamstown; one stepson, Paul E. Snyder and wife Sharon of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren and several step grandchildren. Two brothers, Cecil Flanagan of Parkersburg and Austin Flanagan of Watertown, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Louise Moneypenny Flanagan; one daughter, Glenda Jean Skidmore and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cairo Baptist Church with Pastor Pasi Sikio officiating. Interment will follow in the Cairo I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg and Saturday from 11a.m. until service time at the church.
