Gene Dailey

Walter Eugene “Gene” Dailey I, 79, of Parkersburg, passed away June 6, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 6, 1933, in Wood County, a son of the late Sabastian Wilmer and Martha Jane Hanshaw Dailey. Gene was a member of the 19th Street Church of God of which he helped construct during the ministry of Rev. Gibson. He had also been a member of the church softball team, sang in the church choir, had been a member of a quartet and was a soloist. He was a construction worker for 35 years and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, coached ball teams and especially loved and enjoyed his family.

Surviving is his son, Walter Eugene “Wally” Dailey II of Parkersburg, and his daughter, Carolyn Jane (Keith) McCloy of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Jeremy (Stacy), Justin (Nikki), Jerod (Sarah) and Jansen (fiance, Hope Stanley) McCloy, Derek, Teontia and Deion Dailey and RJ (Berlin) Clegg; eight great-grandchildren, Conner, Riley, Olivia, Kolten and Isabella McCloy, Sidney Clegg, Alaiah James and Christian Ovalle; two soon-to-be expected great-grandchildren, Carson River Clegg and Landon Blaine McCloy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Phyllis Pauline Freeland Dailey, whom he married on Sept. 7, 1955; five brothers, Howard, Russell, Amos, Cecil and Wilmer Dailey; and three sisters, Betty Dailey, Iona Smith and Flora Richards.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the 19th Street Church of God, Pastor Randell Fuson will officiate and burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street, Parkersburg, and at the church on Sunday one hour prior to the service.
