Dorothy Atkinson

Dorothy Eleanor Atkinson, 89, of Peniel, W.Va., died June 25, 2013, at Charleston Area Medical Center’s Memorial Division, after a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Beaver County, Pa., a daughter of the late Orva and Nell Golden Conley.

She was a homemaker and a member of Peniel Community Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and her flower gardens.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Martin Atkinson Jr.; a daughter, Gretchen Wood and her husband, Paul, of Heber Springs, Ark.; a son, Martin “Rick” Atkinson III and his wife, Jeanette, of Peniel; a sister, Mary Boyles of Spencer, W.Va.; a brother, Robert Conley of Charleston, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jody Putnam, Jeff Wood, Martin Atkinson IV, Ryan Atkinson and Jesse Wolfe; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Benjamin Wood, and Lenox Wolfe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katie Wolfe; and a great-grandson, Patrick Wood.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Revs. Tim Couch and Larry Greathouse officiating. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
