Donald Brookhart

Donald Dale Brookhart, 96, went to heaven, Tuesday, April 30, 2013, from his Belpre home.

He was escorted by angels and reunited with his loving wife, Louise. Donald was born in Belpre on July 19, 1916, the son of the late Dale M. and Gladys Farson Brookhart. He graduated from Belpre High School class of 1934. He was an active member of the Belpre Church of Christ for over 70 years. Donald was a charter member of the Belpre Fire Department and served for over 60 years. At one time he was the oldest active volunteer fireman in the state of Ohio. He retired after more than 44 years from Textron, a part of Walker Parkersburg. Donald had a great interest in trains, never missed watching the Cincinnati Reds, and was a member of the Sons and Daughters of the River Boat Pioneers.

Donald is survived by a son, William D.(Frances) Brookhart of Ravenswood, a daughter, Monna L. (Darrell) Dowler of Belleville, and daughter Donna M. Reich, of Sumter, S.C. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Elizabeth B. Mix, Michelle W. Dennis, Lisa W. Lowers, Matthew Reich and Mindy R. Smith. He has eight great-grandchildren: David, Cory, Jenna Dennis, Jamesson Lowers, Kyle, Dylan Reich, Laynie Smith and Brooks Mix.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise C. Brookhart, a sister Helen Cartwright, and a great grand-daughter Christina Dennis.

Friends may call on Friday, May 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre. Services will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home with Ron Laughery officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery in Belleville.

Memorials may be made to the Belpre Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Blvd., Belpre.
