Sister Mary Josephine DiBiase, VHM

Sister Mary Josephine DiBiase, VHM, member of the Georgetown community of Visitation Sisters in Washington, D.C., died at Georgetown Visitation April 25, 2013.

Born in Fairmont, W.Va., March 19, 1930, she graduated from Fairmont High School and received an AB degree in education from Fairmont State College. She taught second grade in a Loudon County, Va. public school for 11 years. In 1963, she joined the Georgetown Visitation community and in 1968, she transferred to the De Sales Heights Visitation community in Parkersburg where she taught third grade, specializing in reading skills for 23 years. With another member of that community, she moved to a residential community for religious women in Tampa, Fla. in 1991. In 2004, she returned to West Virginia becoming a member of the Mount de Chantal Visitation community in Wheeling. At its closure in 2010, the remaining sisters there moved to Georgetown, bringing Sister Mary Josephine back to her initial religious community.

Sister Mary Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Nick DiBiase and Jeanette Fazio DiBiase, and her sister, Julia DiBiase. Surviving are her sister, Frances DiBiase Giron; niece, Lisa Adams; nephew, Christopher Giron; great-niece, Olivia Adams; and great-nephews, Ian Adams and Matthew Giron, all of Greensburg, Pa.

A Mass celebrating the life of Sister Mary Josephine will be offered by Rev. Charles Currie, SJ, in the Georgetown Visitation chapel at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Parkersburg at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.
