Anna (Ann) Marie Walters Stewart
Anna (Ann) Marie Walters Stewart, of Williamstown, passed away on April 28, 2013, from complications due to Multiple Sclerosis, a disease she battled for over 40 years.
Ann was born on Jan. 28, 1942, in Kirby, Pa., the daughter of the late Glenn and Florence (Burch) Walters.
She was the wife of Donald Stewart, and they enjoyed 38 years of marriage and friendship until his death in 2009. Ann was a member of Waynesburg High School class of 1960 and had a love of learning. She was proud to return to the classroom later in life, taking college courses in literature and writing. Ann loved her career in retail as a sales associate with Stone & Thomas and she never met a cosmetics counter she didn’t like. Ann had a quick wit and great sense of humor, and people enjoyed spending time with her. She spent many summers boating and fishing on the Ohio River and she loved the outdoors. She had a deep faith and served for four decades as a Jehovah’s Witness, associated with the Marietta Kingdom Hall.
Ann is survived by her children, Mike (Elisa) McCoy of Frederick, Md., Michelle (Kevin) Bassett of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Matt (Trish) McCoy of Dripping Springs, Texas; and stepson, Shane (Joanne) Stewart of Taylor Mill, Ky. Also surviving is her sister, Velma Lewis; sisters-in-law, Jane Walters, Carol Walters and Phyllis Spires; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Bucky and Clyde Walters.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Marietta Center for the compassionate care that they provided Ann over the past four years. Tremendous gratitude is also expressed for the exceptional comfort care provided Ann in her final days by the clinical staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital and Amedisys Hospice.
