Opal Anderson

Opal Anderson, 94, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 11, 2013, at her residence in the company of her two daughters.

She was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Parkersburg, W.Va., the daughter of the late Edward Marshall and Rosa Utter Conger. Opal enjoyed traveling and visited many places such as London, Paris, Yellowstone, California, San Antonio and Algonquin National Park in Canada. She frequently enjoyed visiting Amish Country, the Smoky Mountains and Florida. She was a member of Calvary Temple Church in Parkersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Anderson, whom she resided with and lovingly cared for her, and Anita (Dan) Carmichael of Belpre, Ohio, two sons, Weldon (Ellen) Anderson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Darrell (Sandy) Anderson of Davisville, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, Carol, Patti, Scott, Stephen and Laura Anderson, Jeff, Ben, Chris and Amber Carmichael, Summer Carmichael and Alishia Gillenwater; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett B. Anderson, who passed away on Aug. 30, 1969; and eight brothers and sisters, Dale, William, Joseph and Cromer Conger, Estel Life, Nora Hart Sams, Oda Uppole and Alma Jones.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Pastor Budd Cunningham officiating. Interment will be in the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today.
