Mary Virginia Cunningham
Mary Virginia Fleming Cunningham, 100, St. Marys Nine Mile Community, widow of Benjamin F. Cunningham, departed this life Monday, March 18, 2013, at Carehaven of Pleasants.
She was born on March 27, 1912, in Maxwell, W.Va., the daughter of the late Samuel Thomas and Florence Poynter Fleming. She was a 1929 graduate of St. Marys High School, and later graduated from Salem College with a B.A. Degree in Education. Virginia was a Teacher in the Pleasants County School System retiring in 1975. Her last 15 years were spent in the Belmont Elementary School. She was a member of the P.C.E.A. School Employees, A.A.R.P., and the Ellenboro Chapter 20 of the Order of Eastern Star, where she recently received her 50 year pin of service. She was also a faithful member of the Nine Nile United Methodist Church, and served on the official board of the church as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, The Board of Trustees, many church committees, and later Church Historian.
She is survived by Carolyn Peluso and husband John; Susan Bailey and husband Jeffrey, and their daughter, Caroline Bailey; Carmen Peluso and wife Megan, and their son, Tommy, and daughter, Isabella of Gaithersburg, Md.; and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Emza Wince Prochaska.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nine Mile United Methodist Church, St. Marys, W.Va., with Pastor Steve Gedon and Pastor Brian Boley officiating. Interment will be in the Nine Mile Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va., and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
