Luella V. Wiseman

Luella V. Wiseman, 95, formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away in the early morning hours on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta, Ga. She went to be with the Lord after experiencing recent respiratory issues and other complications.

Born Luella Virginia Johnson on Sept. 26, 1917, in Pleasants County, she was the daughter of the late George Jeffery Johnson and Josephine Johnson (Hackathorn), also of Pleasants County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, June E. Wiseman of Elizabeth; and her siblings, Earl Johnson of Weirton, W.Va., and Chandas Johnson of Weirton; as well as two half-brothers; and eight step-brothers and step-sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Linda J. Rea and son-in-law Gary D. Rea of Martinez, Ga.; three grandsons, Troy M. Rea (Tracy Bertram) of Evans, Ga.,Todd A. Rea of Ellijay, Ga., and Timothy L. Rea (Lori Miller) of Woodstock, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren, Kian, Kellan and Brenna (Troy), and Garrett and Gavin (Timothy). She also is survived by her sister and life-long friend, Bessie Maston of St. Marys, W.Va.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Devoted to her husband and his career as a 33 year employee of the CSX Railroad, Luella and June lived in many places throughout their years together, including Garrett, Indiana, Harvey, Illinois, Cincinnati, Ohio, and finally retiring to Parkersburg, to be near their family at the time. She retired from the Board of Education in Ohio after 18 years, where she was a favorite of students and co-workers alike. In retirement, Luella and June were beloved volunteers at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg for 10 years. They took great pride in their duties as volunteers, and were honored to be featured in hospital advertising. They also enjoyed traveling the United States with family and friends. After the passing of her husband in 1999, Luella moved to Georgia to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Most important to Luella was her unwavering belief and faith in God. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, after being baptized at the age of 13. She was a Christian example for all. Her greatest happiness was doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was affectionately known as ‘Gammy’ by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, to be led by Minister Eddie Cooper. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial to follow funeral service at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Elizabeth, W.Va.
