Gale Meyer Hains

Gale Meyer Hains, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Ohio Valley Healthcare.

He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Frank Woodruff and Earlena (Meyer) Hains. He was a 1949 graduate of Parkersburg High School, and retired after 35 years from DuPont. He was a member of the United States Army Air Corps and served as a radar mechanic at the headquarters of the 10th Air Force. He sang in the Barber Shop Chorus for 50 years, helped establish the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Deptartment, and was a member of Star Dusters Square Dancers.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Brannon) Hains; daughter, Lynne Francis (Randy) of Parkersburg; grandson, Brent Francis of Parkersburg; and cousins, Don Speiden (Linda) of Hinton, W.Va., and Edgard Speiden (Jeannie) of Silver Springs, Md. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank W. Hains Jr.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Larry Jackson and Rev. Jack Neilson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
