Ethel M. Boyce

Ethel M. Boyce, 89, of Elizabeth, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Campus.

She was born in Jackson County, Jan. 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Harry H. Smith and Alma Stallings Smith Seals. She retired in 1988, after 16 years, from the Juvenile Detention Center in Parkersburg. She was a member of the Belleville United Methodist Church, but had attended the Limestone United Methodist since 1990. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her children, John Smith (Roseann) of Newark, Ohio, Sam Smith of Parkersburg, Randy Boyce (Nancy) of Sandyville, W.Va., Kerry Boyce (Brenda) of Petersburg, Va., and Anita Lehker (Wayne) of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Scott Smith (Heather), Sarah Murray (Shaun), Justin Boyce (Joyce), Jillian Boyce, Jenifer Lehker, Jule Lehker, Paul Boyce (Ashley), Angie Hurst (Steve), Tracey Cline and Tony Cline (Sasha); 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ila Schocky of Parkersburg; and her beloved cat, Brownie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence ‘Pat’ Smith; her second husband, Truman Boyce; daughter, Pam Johnson; and sisters, Auleen Holleron, Edith Roeson, Mary Smith and Miona Wilhelme.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Vera Archer officiating. Burial will be at the Ravenswood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
