John Amon Tippens

John Amon Tippens, 82, of Sandyville, passed away suddenly, Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2013, at his Trace Fork Home.

He was born in Paden City on March 4, 1930, son of the late John E. and Bessie Hoskins Tippens.

John was a member of Sandyville Church of Christ and attended the Sandyville Senior Center. He was retired from Eureka Pipeline (Pennzoil) after 40 years of service. One of the main joys in his life was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda McVey Tippens; son, John Alan Tippens of Ripley; daughter, Carol Barr (Ricky) of Ripley; grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob and Paige Barr; brothers, Elmo and Jerry Tippens; and sisters, Phyllis Thomas and Rosemary Cherry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert “Mike” Tippens; and two sisters, Betty Hayes and Ruth Ann Bentley.

Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Sandyville Church of Christ, with Minister Sam Bartrug and his grandson, Jordan Barr, officiating. Interment will follow the service at Independence Cemetery, Sandyville. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. today at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley.
